The simple "check-in" function, the great brand recognition!

GranataPet Snack combined check in function in foursquare and the rewards dog snack machine, which is not only effectively spread the information from social media, but also let the customers experience the product in the reality.

Check in is a Local-Based Service(LBS), which is an information or entertainment service, accessible with mobile devices through the mobile network and utilizing the ability to make use of the geographical position of the mobile device.

The LBS fill the gap of virtuality of the internet, which provides the real location for people. When people checked in, their friends could see the location of them, and then to know what they are doing now. Thus, many companies utilized this function to show what are store's special activity around them, or people could use check in to get the rewards from store as the case before. The LBS also has a big affection of spread, and makes people feel more reality.

In this case, the GranataPet effectively integrated the online and offline activities. They chose a high-dog-traffic area to located the billboard, to increase the opportunity to aware. In addition, repeat that a few times, the dog would start stopping at the billboard as a conditioned response to getting free food there.

What do you think about the case. Also, as the LBS is combining with SNS, facebook and twitter also has the check-in function, what is the relationship between them, and how LBS helps the SNS?

Interesting, as I have said in previous discussions about location based services, I like the idea, and think there is a lot that it could be used for.

I really like this and I bet both my dogs would like it too! It isn't that often that a dog would get an opportunity to try their food before their own buys it.

@hubba the foursquare is an independent social media platform, which "check-in" is the main function as the location based. Though many people use Facebook to check-in, i think there are still many loyal customers in foursquare. Also, it keeps improving itself, like some new rewards program.
